Rogers set to buy SkyDome

The owners of the Toronto Blue Jays are close to a deal to buy the SkyDome and there have already been discussions with Staples Business Depot about renaming the stadium, sources say.


Several sources say Rogers Communications Inc. is in the due diligence phase of a deal to acquire the Dome.


The proposal involves the company paying only a few million dollars for the Toronto stadium and essentially taking over some of its debt, one source said.

Another source familiar with the Jays said Staples has been in discussions about naming rights for the stadium.

However, the naming agreement is on hold pending the outcome of the ownership negotiations.
